Lately I’ve gotten obsessed with serialized podcasts. There is some awesome paranormal theater online. And the fact that you have to use your aural imagination and can’t see what’s going on makes the tales all the creepier.
Here’s a list of my top 5 picks. If you start listening, be sure to start from the beginning. (Same goes for the next two recommendations).
1)The Black Tapes: A serialized docudrama exploring a series of tapes held by a paranormal skeptic. These are the tapes he hasn’t been able to explain. And the weird story that’s woven around them is… Well, I ended up listening to the entire season 1 in one weekend. Adding to the weirdness is the clever mix of fact and fiction, that had be continually Googling to see if the story was true.
2) The Tanis Podcast. Produced by the same folks who created The Black Tapes, this bi-weekly docudrama podcast explores the myth of Tanis. Is Tanis a place? A state of being? And is someone willing to kill for the answer?
3) Limetown. Okay, I’ve talked about this docudrama podcast before, but it bears repeating. Awe. Some. What happened to the 300+ men, women, and children of Limetown? And just what the heck were they doing there? Part sci-fi conspiracy thriller, part paranormal weirdness, Limetown had better come back for a season 2.
4) Wormwood: A Serialized Audio Mystery. Welcome to Wormwood, the haunted town “where evil lurks in the shadows…” I’m still working my way through this, but what can I say? It’s got mystery. It’s got the occult. And it doesn’t hurt that the hero, Dr. Xander Crowe, talks like Professor Elemental. It’s also got several seasons available. I’m in heaven.
5) Welcome to Night Vale. Community bulletins from a small desert town, where there are mysterious lights in the sky, and…
