Today we’re interviewing Megan Slayer, and we’ve also got an excerpt from her paranormal erotica with Ellora’s Cave, Soft Marble. First, a bit about the book…
Title: Soft Marble
Genre: M/M, Paranormal Erotica
Publisher: Ellora’s Cave Spectrum Short Story. Quickie line – Contemporary, Fantasy, LGBT
One touch from his lover and this marble will come to life.
Kratos, God of power and strength, has been imprisoned in pure white marble for more than two centuries. His lover can break the spell—if only his lover would find him.
Andy Green knows his ancient artifacts. He spends his days restoring works of art. When the sculpture of Kratos enters his studio, he can’t hide his attraction. Will he be able to free the god or will forces beyond his control destroy everything he’s earned?
Now, on to the interview!
Tell us about your latest book!
My latest paranormal book is entitled, Soft Marble. It’s a Male-Male short story featuring a Greek God and a grad student. Hot antics in the art building after dark!
What prompted you to write this book or series?
My dear friend, Stephanie Burke, like to post what she calls Hump Day Hump photos. Usually these are sexy photos that make the viewer think. One of those pictures was a nearly nude man with his bits strategically covered. The picture looked like it was taken in an art studio and that got me thinking. What if a statue came to life? I thought, that could be cool. Think the David strolling off his platform.
Then I was given a story prompt about a statue coming to life. That was it. I had to write the story, so I did.
How did you develop the names for your characters?
Andy, my hero, came first. He’s geeky and a total art nerd, so I asked him what his name was. I thought maybe he’d be called Chris, but the more I got to know him through the character sketch I did, I realized he was Andy.
Kratos name was the first Greek God I came up with. I was an art nerd in college and loved the ancient Greeks. I remembered Kratos and thought, what about him? He’s got siblings, which means there could be a series! So I ran with the name and used it in the story. Kratos is a strong God who protects Zeus and has wings. He’s the embodiment of power and I hope that shines through in the story.
Who’s your favorite paranormal character in pop culture, and why do you remember him/her?
My favorite paranormal character in pop culture is Herman Munster. Now, that show is a little before my time, but when I was a kid the show ran on reruns. I loved how Herman always seemed to be smiling and laughing. He made me feel good and not be afraid of the dark.
What paranormal power would you like to have and why?
I would want to be able to fly. I’m short and the shelves and cupboards tend to be above my head, so I’d want to be able to fly up to whatever it was I wanted instead of having to constantly ask for help or find a step stool.
What’s your writing schedule? Do you have a favorite place to write?
I have one of the craziest writing schedules…probably because it’s not really a schedule. I write when I can get the five minutes to string together to sit in front of the laptop. When I can’t write on the laptop or my tablet, I’ve got notebooks I keep with me. I can never tell when inspiration will hit and when I need to jot something down. The notebooks are a lifesaver.
My favorite place to write is either at my gigantic desk or sitting on the couch. I need noise while I write. If I’m at my desk, I can listen to iTunes on my computer. If I’m on the couch, I listen to the news or a television program—usually about music or Once Upon a Time. I’m a sucker for Captain Hook.

Andy strolled down the hallway to the restoration room with his bag slung over his shoulder. He still couldn’t wrap his mind around what had happened. One minute he was cleaning a sexy statue and the next he was talking to the man who’d been the statue. His stomach rumbled. Maybe the encounter with Kratos came out of his lack of food in the last twelve hours. Possibly.
When Andy entered the room, Kratos stood next to his pedestal. He grinned and pointed to the place he’d once stood.
“Magic.” Kratos’ smile grew and he shrugged. “Gods can do things like that.”
“You—you put you up there.” Andy touched the marble. The stone chilled his fingers. The statue resembled the one brought in for him to clean. He studied the facial expression. “It’s almost like you.” His gaze switched between Kratos and the marble. “He’s not so pensive. Less detailed.” He turned his attention back to Kratos. “What happened?”
“I am a god. We have magic at our fingertips.”
Andy stared at the naked man. He kept saying he was a god. The replica statue helped—especially since it had been conjured seemingly out of thin air, but still. The bag on his shoulder slipped to the crook of his arm.
“Oh fuck.” Andy offered him the gym bag. “Here are some clothes. I’ll leave you alone to get dressed.”
“Why?” Kratos accepted the bag. “How does this work?” He tugged on the bag. “I’ve never seen one like this before.”
“I forgot. It’s a zipper.” Andy tugged the tab, opening the bag. “If you’re sticking around a while, I’ll have to get you up to speed on current culture.” That is, if Kratos wanted him to teach him. The man could always tell him to get lost.
“I hope you do.” Kratos withdrew the T-shirt. He wrestled the garment over his head, covering his chest. The shirt molded to his upper body like a second skin.
“Wow,” Andy murmured. “Looks great on you.” He expected Kratos to kick him out of the room and want privacy. He was a god, right? Didn’t gods expect preferential treatment? “I’ll leave you alone to change.”

When she’s not writing the stories in her head, Megan Slayer can be found luxuriating in her hot tub with her two vampire Cabana boys, Luke and Jeremy. She has the tendency to run a tad too far with her muse, so she has to hide in the head of her alter ego, but the boys don’t seem to mind.
When she’s not obsessing over her whip collection, she can be found picking up her kidlet from school. She enjoys writing in all genres, but writing about men in love suits her fancy best. The cabana boys are willing to serve, unless she needs them. She always need them. So be nice to Javier or he will bite–on command.
She also masquerades under the name Wendi Zwaduk and is published through Ellora’s Cave, Changeling Press, Decadent Publishing , Liquid Silver Books, MLR Press, Resplendence Publishing, and Total-E-Bound Publishing.
