Regular contributor to this blog, Catie Rhodes, has a short story out featuring southern medium Peri Jean Mace in the new anthology, Allegories of the Tarot. The book features 22 short stories by 22 authors (22 is the number of cards in the Major Arcana).
The anthology has a little of every genre in it. The Peri Jean Mace stories are paranormal mysteries. In Catie’s contribution to the anthology, “Justice,” we find Peri learning that nothing in life is free. Wade Hill’s help in Forever Road came at a price, and now Peri must do a favor for the Six Gun Revolutionaries, an outlaw motorcycle club who operates in Burns County, Texas. Immersed in a harrowing world of betrayal, murder, and revenge, Peri has to ask herself if there is such a thing as justice in this setting.
When we asked the editor of the anthology, Annetta Ribken, how it all came about, she replied: “I’m a professional editor and I work with some amazingly talented indie writers. I’ve been fascinated by the Tarot since I can remember, and I’ve used the cards many times in my own writing when there’s a particular plot knot or one of the characters is giving me fits. One day, I had this passing idea of how fabulous it would be to hook up twenty-one writers with a card from the Major Arcana and see what happened. The idea just wouldn’t leave me alone, and thus the Allegories of the Tarot was born.”
